Who is One Direction?

The first event i have chosen to do as part of my two event marketing comparison is the One direction tour.

The tour is a sell out event, showing the height of the groups success, at such an early stage in their career. Starting on the 23rd February at the O2 arena in London and ending on the 20th April at the Sun Show arena in Manchester. Totaling at a number of 39 dates in total , in a number of different locations, including the Odyssey Arena, Belfast and the Liverpool Echo Arena, Liverpool.

The groupshot to fame after coming third place on the 2010 series of the show X Factor. The boys were put together by the judges and producers of the show, after failing to get through to the live shows as solo acts.

Their success was inevitable as the popularity of the group whilst on the hit TV show continuously grew. Whilst the group performed on the show, it was hard for the presenter, Dermot O'leary, to even be herd, with the crowds of screaming girls shouting and cheering for the group to win. On one occasion  the group were bombarded with fans rushing to their car as they arrived at rehearsals  with one girls foot being run over, when the driver decided to make a quick escape. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1324803/X-FACTOR-2010-One-Direction-fan-injured-rush-boy-band.html

Although this could have been seen as bad publicity for the group, as well as the show, it represented the height of popularity that there was for the boys, and the huge fan base that they seemed to have had from the very beginning of their careers.  Their first release, once the show had finished was, 'What makes you beautiful' which was a huge success and meant that the group have had to do less work in creating a fan base, to start their careers. Although, since their first single, it has rapidly grown and is                                                           continuing to do so.
